Sandra Steingraber Receives Honorary Doctoral Degree from SUNY _ESF

Hi, friends.

Yesterday I received an honorary doctoral degree from SUNY-ESF, the nation's oldest and most venerable college of environmental science and forestry. I also had the additional honor of addressing the graduating class of 2013, along with parents, alums, trustees, and faculty.

My remarks focused on what I consider to be the defining moral and scientific question of our time and of our beloved state: continue the ruinous addiction to fossil fuels via fracking or declare our independence once and for all, via the roadmap that Jacobson et al offers us?

I also described the situation that Inergy has created on the west bank of Seneca Lake and my act of civil disobedience at the compressor station there.

I did not miss the opportunity to deliver a personal invitation to SUNY-ESF alum, NY DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens: march with us at the June 17th rally in Albany.

I'm pleased to report that my words received a lengthy standing ovation, which I take as a signal: New Yorkers are ready and eager to move past regressive, brutal, climate-killing forms of energy extraction. Albany, take note.

Ecowatch has just posted my remarks. Here's the direct link:
