Review & Express May 8

"County's Treatment of Prisoners Shows Lack of Common Sense"-- Ruth Young This piece was also a letter to Schuyler legislators. It is short and like other Viewpoints not available online so it is pasted below.

There was also a front page article "Finger Lakes receive more media attention"--the Finger Lakes are among the top 10 lakeside destinations in the world--; another column noting that Finger lakes wines are too often absent from area restaurants. This is a disgrace; I make a point of only buying Finger lakes wines and ordering only FL wines in restaurants.( IF, of course, they are allies of Gasfreeseneca and also oppose fracking.)

"County's Treatment of Prisoners Shows Lack of Common Sense"

"It appears that the Schuyler County Legislature is still into the policy of walking past a dollar to pick up a dime out of smallness of spirit. Instead of asking us (the pro-clean energy people) to pay the costs for the Reading Town Justice sentencing female prisoners to the Chemung County jail, the enlightened legislators (assuming there are some) might instead buy some ankle bracelets for the sheriff's department and request that the town justice show some common sense. He could send these good ladies home for house arrest when they refuse to pay the cost of protesting immoral and irrational policies and laws. That would also deprive us, the protestors, of some of our positive publicity and our chance to activate the guards and the other prisoners in Chemung County for clean water and air.

Even Burma (Myanmar) had the sense to keep Aung San Suu Kyi in house arrest to save money. Of course, in the long run, democracy and liberty are beginning to grow in Myanmar, because now she is free and serving in the government. Therefore, I have hope for Schuyler County also."
